What prophylactic antithrombotic agents are safe to use with lenalidomide?
Hi, my name is Dr. Donald Harvey. I am Director of the Phase 1 Clinical Trial Section and an Associate Professor in Hematology, Medical Oncology, and Pharmacology at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. The prophylactic anti-thrombotic agents that are safe to use in lenalidomide include agents like aspirin, which may be used in patients who do not have multiple risk factors for thromboembolic disease. Similarly, if patients do have multiple risk factors, full-dose warfarin can be employed, or an enoxaparin therapeutic dosage may also be needed. The novel oral anticoagulants, drugs like apixaban or rivaroxaban have not specifically been evaluated here. However, it is hard for me to believe that these agents would not be effected based on mechanisms of action and the ways the patients may have thromboembolic phenomenon on lenalidomide.
