Dr. Michele Cavo received his medical degree cum laude from Bologna University School of Medicine, Italy, where he was awarded his postgraduate degree in hematology. He is a Professor of Hematology at Bologna University School of Medicine, and Head of the Myeloma Research Unit at Seràgnoli Institute of Hematology and Medical Oncology in Bologna, Italy.

Dr. Cavo, an internationally renowned researcher and team leader in the multiple myeloma (MM) field, is a member of the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), the American Society of Hematology (ASH), and the Italian Society of Hematology (SIE). He co-chairs the GIMEMA Italian Myeloma Network. His recognized scientific value in the hematology community is sanctioned by the invitation to participate as an invited speaker at all the International Myeloma Workshops, and to give presentations at Educational sessions during the meetings of the Italian Society of Hematology (SIE) and the of the European Haematology Association (EHA). Dr. Cavo has authored more than 330 papers published in peer-reviewed journals, including TheLancet, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Leukemia, British Journal of Haematology, Haematologica, and others. He has been on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Haematologica: The Hematology Journal, and serves as reviewer for important peer-reviewed journals in the field of hematology and oncology.
